EDF Pavilion 2012 Olympics

An electrifying experience on the worlds biggest stage.

MET created a 3D brand experience for EDF within a purpose-built Pavilion at the London 2012 Olympic Games in association with event management company ILuka and architect Schmidhuber. Located next to the main athletics stadium, the pavilion was on display for the full duration of the 2012 Games.

It showcased and celebrated EDF’s involvement with London 2012 as an official partner and electricity supplier with an overarching theme stressing the importance of electricity in our everyday lives, using several exhibits and graphics to illustrate this point at a human level.

At the centre of the pavilion was a large interactive LED sculpture that reacted to visitors movements, allowing such movement to be transformed into energy to be put back into the pavilion, showing the relationship between electricity and sport and how collaborative action can make a noticeable impact. In addition we provided visitors with a free Augmented Reality smart phone app that could be used to bring graphics within the pavilion to life.

Finally, we helped develop an immersive introduction film directed by Hollywood film director Gary Shore, introducing the importance of electricity in powering our everyday lives through the story of a little girl growing up to become an Olympic athlete.

As visitors moved through the pavilion they could view a 24 hour cycle of electricity use during an ‘Olympic day’, and the innovations EDF were championing in order to create a sustainable ‘Generation Mix’ for a greener future.

‘The compact pavilion is designed to convey the message that electricity is a magical force essential to our everyday lives’ (Fitch – August 2012)
