“The ultimate in Corporate Experiences.”
– Leisure Management Magazine

MET was invited by Hong Kong Telecom (now part of the PCCW Group) to take part in an international pitch to design an ambitious, permanent interactive science, technology and telecommunications exhibition. This would include business-to-business marketing suites and a 100-seat auditorium aimed at clients, staff and the local community, all across two floors of Hong Kong Telecom’s Quarry Bay headquarters.

Fortunate enough to win the competition, we began by conducting in-depth research into venues with similar themes across the globe, as well as identifying the requirements of each sector of the target audience. We also conducted one to one interviews with board members and senior staff to get their opinion on the requirements of the project, as well as how they saw the future of communications technology and Hong Kong Telecom’s role in a regional and global market.

Within the given space, effectively an office environment, we took out floors at key points to create double-height spaces, punching holes in floor slabs to allow us to produce highly dramatic set pieces.

The finished environments included over 100 interactive exhibits using the most sophisticated technologies available at the time to create an entertaining vision of the present and future of telecommunications with a clear understanding of its scientific and technological application, as well as offering a deeper insight into its relevance in their own lives.

The project was the world’s first ‘smart’ exhibition, where differing levels of understanding were catered for by exhibition smartcards which visitors keyed in to access their language and information according to their age and interests.

The ‘smart’ element also gave the client valuable commercial data about visitor profiles, footfall, preferences and interests.

‘I would like to thank you and your team for the professional support and excellent work on this project’ (Linus Cheung – Chief Executive, Hong Kong Telecom)

87% of visitors would recommend others to visit and 83% reported that they had found the exhibition ‘highly enjoyable’ (Results from Visitor Poll terminals)
